Eduweek 2019 Report: Thiloshni Govender, EAPA-SA President | EAPA-SA

I am so proud in my role as the EAPA-SA President to report that the 21st annual EAPA-SA Eduweek, which took place at The Wild Coast Sun from 17th to 21st September, was considered to be our best Eduweek ever – far surpassing even our own expectations.  With its focus on educating our members and others in the EAP industry, our commitment to creating positive change in South African workspaces through education and training has been upheld.

“Considered to be our best Eduweek ever – far surpassing even our own expectations.”

Thiloshni Govender, EAPA-SA President

Work is the life blood of a nation and the work organisation is a microcosm of society. EAPs are well positioned for the social activism necessary for positive transformation and, therefore, need to keep our fingers on South Africa’s pulse. The 2019 EAPA-SA Eduweek provided a platform for organisations, practitioners and service providers to engage on current issues and to be armed with empathy, knowledge, skills and strategies to address critical social challenges presenting at workplace communities and affecting workplace productivity.

EAPA-SA’s value system centres around protecting the workspace through promoting ethics, standards for practice and professional development among its member organisations, professionals and service providers.  These values are embedded in the Eduweek 2019 theme: Leading through change – navigating EAP in an ever-changing workscape, and the whole of this year’s Eduweek experience was designed to strengthen the leadership of those working in organisations.

The Eduweek Organising Committee comes from within the EAPA-SA Board, which selflessly serves the workspace. Not receiving any financial benefit or share of the proceeds from the event, our passion is focused on delivering the best Eduweek experience possible – one that truly serves the workspace. The team is made up of professionals working in the EA field, so Eduweek’s programme design will always have a “finger on the pulse” and deliver valuable, cutting edge information – and when combined with the EnOv8 Event Management team’s commitment to excellence, we have a winning formula.  Our partners and members make an invaluable contribution to the event, making it excel year after year.

We want to thank all our stakeholders for your support.  Without your partnership EAPA-SA would not be the thriving association it is today. You can read more about the sponsors and exhibitors and their companies by clicking on the image below.

Here is what a selection of my fellow EAPA-SA Board members, sponsors and exhibitors had to say:

“We had 431 attendees at Eduweek 2019, which includes delegates, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors. I believe this has been EAPA-SA’s best Eduweek ever. Every year the

Eduweek gets better and better – borne out by the fact that delegates return year after year. The presentation content was excellent, it was the second year that we have run the Eduweek mobile app where delegates could check their schedule, read speaker bios and rate the programme at the end of the day. The app has helped our mandate to “go green” – we printed no Eduweek programme booklets this year, making sure to practice what we preach – particularly in the face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

“We brought international speakers to Eduweek and even our local speaker.” – Jimmy Lenong – Marketing Portfolio Holder

“In terms of the value proposition EAPA-SA offers to our members, Eduweek 2019 has surpassed our expectations. This year we took the route of vetting our speakers and their presentations and the quality of speakers came through and showed in the excellence of their presentations.  We brought international speakers to Eduweek and even our local speakers are internationally acclaimed.”

Jimmy Lenong – Board Member and Marketing Portfolio Holder

“Eduweek is a very important annual gathering of the EAP industry.  It is important to come together, whether one is a service provider, the person implementing programmes or individual consumers, to look at what is going well and examine how to improve further by sharing knowledge, benchmarking and showcasing innovation. This raises the bar and in the end the consumers benefit.”

Dr Fundile Nyati – CEO of Proactive Health Services, Eduweek sponsor and exhibitor

“We have had some great interactions with clients, both existing and prospective clients.” Joash Narainsamy – Manager: Marketing and Sales, ICAS

“We have had some great interactions with clients, both existing and prospective clients – and the aim of ICAS being at Eduweek is to connect with people we work with, and to really understand t he industry and how we can positively contribute towards the growth of the industry. What has been encouraging to us at ICAS has been to see the growth in participation as well as a growth in the level of contribution we are getting from the speakers.”

Joash Narainsamy – Manager: Marketing and Sales, ICAS and Eduweek Sponsor and Exhibitor

“I would like to say thank you to all exhibitors who attended Eduweek 2019.  We think it is an auspicious event where all individual practitioners, specialists and service providers can come together to share ideas on how to ‘professionalise’ our industry and take best practice back into their working lives.”
