About EAPA-SA

The Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) is the largest, oldest professional association for persons in the Employee Assistance field of work. EAPA represents more than 7 000 individuals and Organisations involved in Employee Assistance in 107 Chapters around the globe.

EAPA-SA affiliated as a Branch of EAPA International in 1997 to provide leadership, strategic direction, professional development and oversight of Employee Assistance practice in South Africa through administration of standards and ethics for practice.

EAPA-SA, currently in its 23rd year, is the only officially recognised voice for the EA profession. It is continually growing and expanding in terms of its scope and influence both in the public and private sector. In recent years EAPA-SA’s presence has expanded into other parts of Africa to support the establishment of like structures. There are currently ten active Chapters across the various provinces of South Africa.

EAPA-SA is still one of a few branches of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) that has achieved twice for Branch of the Year and numerous individual international awards.

EAPs role as a strategic risk management partner in the dynamic and rapidly evolving world of work makes increasingly complex demands on professionals working in the field to possess advanced skills, demonstrate expertise and to play a strategic role in strengthening work organisations.

Membership of EAPA-SA is governed by strict principles and takes the form of individual, service provider or associate membership. Members are expected to practice according to the national standards and ethics and to participate in continuous professional development.

SAQA recognises EAPA-SA as “a professional body constituted to represent and/or regulate a recognised community of expert practitioners…” with four registered professional designations.

EAPA-SA is registered as a Non Profit Company in terms of Section 21 of the Companies Act of 2008 with two employees and a Board consisting of unsalaried elected members and Chapter representatives that serve in guardianship and oversight role.

EAPA-SA recognises professionals from the related disciplines as well as their professional registrations works together with their Statutory Councils, Professional Associations and other stakeholder entities to ensure excellence in Employee Assistance Practice.

The EAP Association (EAPA) is the largest, oldest and most respected professional association for persons in the employee assistance program field. EAPA represents more than 3500 individuals and organisations with an interest in employee assistance across 40 countries.

EAPA-SA is a member of EAPA – the world’s largest, oldest, and most respected membership organisation for employee assistance professionals.

With nearly 5,000 members in over 30 countries around the globe, EAPA is the world’s most relied upon source of information and support for and about the employee assistance profession.

EAPA-SA hosts professional conferences manages the standards and ethics and has been working with SAQA and the DPSA in offering training and other resources to fulfil its mission.
