Friday 04 June 2021: 10am – 12pm
Content Focus Area: Lessons from the Pandemic frontline
Session Description:
Loss and Grief training focuses on the cycle and journey of loss and grief. It aims to educate employees in understanding the complications of grieving during Covid-19 and equip them with tools on how to identify the different reactions to grief and explore coping mechanisms on how to deal with grief.Â
Presentation Abstract:
The presentation begins with an interactive icebreaker which leads into a definition of loss, specifically looking at the various losses we had to deal with due to Covid-19. It then leads into examples of the losses experienced and ties in the answers provided by participants in the icebreaker activity. It moves on to provide definitions of grief and explains that grief impacts our whole being, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually. Reactions to grief are then discussed and participants are asked to form groups and discuss the case study provided and identify the reactions of grief within the case study.
The presentation continues with providing examples of each reaction, that being emotional, physical, behavioural, social, beliefs and spiritual reactions. The presentation speaks to the types of grief we experience, especially during Covid-19 and furthermore explains the cycle of grief. The last few slides speak to the journey of grief and provide various coping mechanisms on how to deal with grief. Lastly a 3–4minute video is shared with participants on how to support others who are dealing with grief.
