Eduweek 2022 in summary:

Days: 3

Speakers: 34

Delegates: 379

Eduweek 2022 could not have taken place without the generous support of our lead sponsor, Metropolitan Momentum, and gold sponsor, ICAS, along with support sponsors PHS, Sanlam, MyHeath360, ICF, AON, St John, Life Assist and Workforce Health Care. Eduweek, as the preeminent event of its kind in Southern Africa, is brought to life each year through the dedicated hard work of EAPASA Board members, particularly the Eduweek Organising Committee, and the Association’s event management team, EnOv8, as well as by the many invaluable contributions and attendance of its members and other interested parties.

Uniting to Advance Employee Wellness

On Wednesday 7 September, EAPASA President, Thiloshni Govender, opened Eduweek 2022, introducing the theme: Uniting to Advance Employee Wellness. Thiloshni emphasised that the EAPASA Board desired that every delegate would learn something that could be taken back to their workplace and that EAP professionals would be enabled to improve the industry’s programmes and services with a view to improving employee productivity.

Eduweek: Empowering the EAP/Health & Wellness industry

Eduweek 2022 enabled a broad range of employee assistance, health and wellness, occupational health and safety, and human resources practitioners, among others, to gather and interact over several days in a holistic learning environment that is designed to:

  • augment their professional development, and
  • facilitate networking and peer learning.

Beyond the valuable education to be had through attending educational sessions, Eduweek provided delegates with multiple opportunities to network and catch up with their peers. This blended approach to learning is implemented to allow industry professionals from across South Africa to become a valuable resource in delivering new thinking, up-to-date solutions and best practices that are then taken into organisations and practices across the country.

In a challenging world of work: Performance = Potential – Interruptions

In his keynote address, Mr. Malcolm Fiellies, Regional Development Manager at International Coaching Federation, spoke on how to drive business results through leading cohesive teams.

He provided insight on how to move a team from being dysfunctional to fully cohesive and how to create a psychologically safe work environment. He covered how to use an integrated EAP to assist with individual challenges. Feedback on his talk was that it was very useful, with delegates saying:

“The presentation was good and provoked intentions of wanting to be a better leader. ”

“Very important and gives direction on what to do to revive teams that are underperforming.”

Empowering industry education

With day one of master training having brought leading edge learning to attendees, day two and three of Eduweek brought an interesting array of plenary sessions along with lots of opportunity to network. Delegates benefitted from receiving invaluable learning and inspiration, they heard from Eduweek’s leading sponsor Metropolitan Momentum and gold sponsor, ICAS, as well as from our support sponsors, and had ample time to interact with our exhibitors and one another over these two days.

Exhibitors included EAPASA, Metropolitan Momentum, ICAS, PHS, Sanlam, MyHeath360, ICF, AON, St John, Life Assist and Workforce Health Care, South Africa Responsible Gambling Foundation, PM Skills House, Sleep Image and University of Pretoria.

A transformative experience

The conference wrapped at 17:30 on Thursday 8 September.  EAPASA President, Thiloshni Govender had this to say, “Eduweek 2022 was a resounding success. Practicing EAP professionals, service providers and partners were present to usher in a new era of employee wellness practice. Innovations, new resources and ideas for EAP programming were shared. Eduweek also provided a platform for role players to engage in industry issues. It was truly a transformative experience”.

“The EAPASA Board would like to thank all our stakeholders for your support. Without your partnership EAPASA would not be the thriving association it is today and Eduweek 2022 would not be the beneficial event that it is, where individual practitioners, specialists, service providers and users can come together to share ideas and then implement best practice into their working lives.”
